Girls U-19 team from Spokane Soccer Club, coached by Jeff Hohenthal, returned this past weekend from Las Vegas with the Championship trophy in hand after attending the Mayors Cup. The girls put up some impressive numbers including a 4-0-1 record, 1st in their group, and 7 goals for and 1 conceded throughout the duration of the tournament. Goal keeper Kylie Wallace had 4 consecutive games of shutout soccer, and they had six different goal scorers to tally their 7 goals led by Whitney Wood with 2. The Falcons beat the Auburn Blaze (cal north), 2-1 in the opener, defeated Langley Extreme (BC) 2-0, and drew with the Calgary Foothills (CAN) team 0-0 in group play. The ladies continued with victories in the semi final against a team from Nevada Pride (Reno) 2-0, and faced Langley again in the Championship, whom they defeated again 1-0. Captain Stevie Harris said, “To come here and win the last big youth tournament we will participate in before we go to college means a lot to all of the Seniors, especially one as big as this”. Overall it was a huge team effort from the backline all the way up top that made the team successful. The team is composed of players throughout the area from Deer Park to Ferris to Central Valley out to Coeur d’Alene.
