Competitive FAQ

How are teams formed? -- Competitive teams are formed through a tryout process. Tryouts are held at different times of the year depending on age and level of play.

Early May - PREMIER TEAMS Boys U13-U19 and Girls U13-15
Late May - SELECT TEAMS U12-U19 and Girls PREMIER U16-19

Are playups allowed? -- Yes playups are invited to tryout for teams in our competitive program. However, our Association rules limits U12 teams to no more than 4 playups per team. There is no playup limitations on U13+ aged teams.

Did the Club Fees go up since last year? -- The players total fees (SSC Club Fee + SpVJSA Registration Fee) have gone up from last year. However, this difference reflects an increase in the SpVJSA portion of the fees and not those of Spokane Soccer Club. As of the 2007/2008 season, SpVJSA is moving from a player registration model to a club based affiliation model.

Do I have to live in the Spokane Valley to tryout for Spokane SC Competitive Team? -- No, any player may tryout for our competitive program.

Are there any extra trainer or coaching fees? -- This depends on whether your team is in the SSC Elite or SSC Falcons program.
The SSC Elite Club Fee is all inclusive and already includes coaches and trainer fees. This includes Goalkeeper training. Optional training camps may be offered at an additional cost.
SSC Falcons Club Fees do not include coaches and trainers fees. Goalkeeper training is included in the club fees. The coaches/trainer fees can vary from team to team and may be between $0-75 per per month per player while the team is training. Parents should inquire about coaches/training fees no matter what team or club they are trying out for.

How much travel is involved? -- This depends on the level of play for the team and number of tournaments.
Premier teams competing in the Washington State Premier League (WSPL) will play teams throughout the state. Normally this involved 4-7 trips to western Washington during league and possible overnight stay.
Select teams competing in the District 6 league will normally play games in eastern Washington and northern Idaho. For the most part there is no overnight stay involved.
Tournaments are normally planned in advance. We recommend that you speak with the coach on their tournament plans at tryouts.

Recreational FAQ
  • Where will the games be played? -- All league games will be played at schools in the Spokane Valley or at Plantes Ferry Soccer Complex.
  • Where will practices be? -- The Junior Academy program will include both club training and team practices. Weekly Club training will be at Plantes Ferry Soccer Complex and team practices will be determined by the coach.
  • Who will the Junior Academy teams be playing? -- Our teams will be playing in the SpVJSA Recreational League against SpVJSA recreational teams and the recreational teams of the other clubs.
  •  How will teams be formed? -- There are no tryouts with this program. Unlike previous years where clubs determined the team, all teams will be formed by the SpVJSA Registrar and club registrar. Priority is given to returning players who register between May 1st and May 14th. New players will be placed on neighborhood teams when possible. All players registering after Jun 30th will be placed on teams on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • Why is there a cost difference between the Junior Academy teams and the SpVJSA recreational teams? -- Like the SpVJSA recreational program, our registration fee includes WSYSA player insurance, referees, field cost and uniform. In addition, our Junior Academy program provides access to our high level coaching staff and goalkeeper training.
  • Is there any hidden cost for this program? -- Our program fees cover league and club training. The only extra costs would come from optional activites such as indoor soccer and tournaments.
  • Is there any type of financial assistance is available? -- Soccerships are available on a limited basis based on need.
  • Are play-ups allowed? -- Limited play-up positions are available with this program. Those wishing to play up need to submit a play-up form to the SpVJSA Registrar care of the SpVJSA office. Program limitations may make it impossible to place play-ups on neighborhood teams.
