Competitive FAQ

How are teams formed? -- Competitive teams are formed through a tryout process. Tryouts are held at different times of the year depending on age and level of play.

Premier High school Boys (U16-U19) are in March. Premier U11-U15 Boys are in late April - May. Select Boys U11-U19 are in May. Girls Premier U11-U19 are in late April - May. Select Girls U11-U19 are in May.
 

Are playups allowed? -- Yes playups are invited to tryout for teams in our competitive program. However, our Association rules limits U11 teams to no more than three playups per team. There is no playup limitations on U12+ aged teams.
 

Do I have to live in the Spokane Valley to tryout for Spokane SC Competitive Team? -- No, any player may tryout for our competitive program.

 
What are the club fees? -- The approximate 2010/2011 breakout for the SSC Elite Club Fee.


Spokane Soccer Club Elite Membership Fee -

$195 - U11 Premier and District (Includes two t-shirts, shorts, and socks)

$395 Premier(U12) and District U12-U19

$495 Premier U13-U19


Do I have to pay the full club fee right away? --  No, each family can decide which payment option they prefer. Some choose to pay all at once, some choose to pay half and half, and some choose to pay in thirds.


Are there any extra trainer or coaching fees? --  The SSC Elite Club Fee is all inclusive and already includes coaches and trainer fees. This includes Goalkeeper training.  

Does are team have to pay to Rent Plantes Ferry for practice? --  No, SSC Elite club dues cover practice rental for one night a week at Plantes Ferry.

How much travel is involved? -- This depends on the level of play for the team and number of tournaments.
 

Premier teams competing in the Washington State Premier League (WSPL) or US Club league will play teams throughout the state. Normally this involved 2-4 trips to western Washington during league and possible overnight stay.
 

Select teams competing in the District 6 or US Club league will normally play games in eastern Washington and northern Idaho. For the most part there is no overnight stay involved.
 

Tournaments are normally planned in advance. We recommend that you speak with the coach on their tournament plans at tryouts.

What other fees are there? -- This depends on the level of play for the team and the number of tournaments.

All Premier and District/Select teams have a league fee that will be divided by the number of players (Premier about $30 a player, District/Select about $5 per player.) Each player also pays $150 association fee that covers refs, field rental, field setup, etc. Each tournament a team participates in cost between $30-$45 per tournament to cover the entrance fee.

During the winter some teams participate in indoor soccer and/or futsal. This would be an additional cost and please speak with the coach at tryouts if planning on doing either.

Recreational FAQ
  • Where will the games be played? -- All league games will be played at schools in the Spokane Valley or at Plantes Ferry Soccer Complex.
  • Where will practices be? -- The Junior Academy program will include both club training and team practices. Weekly Club training will be at Plantes Ferry Soccer Complex and team practices will be determined by the coach.
  • Who will the Junior Academy teams be playing? -- Our teams will be playing in the SpVJSA Recreational League against SpVJSA recreational teams and the recreational teams of the other clubs.
  •  How will teams be formed? -- There are no tryouts with this program. Unlike previous years where clubs determined the team, all teams will be formed by the SpVJSA Registrar and club registrar. Priority is given to returning players who register between May 1st and May 14th. New players will be placed on neighborhood teams when possible. All players registering after Jun 30th will be placed on teams on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • Why is there a cost difference between the Junior Academy teams and the SpVJSA recreational teams? -- Like the SpVJSA recreational program, our registration fee includes WSYSA player insurance, referees, field cost and uniform. In addition, our Junior Academy program provides access to our high level coaching staff and goalkeeper training.
  • Is there any hidden cost for this program? -- Our program fees cover league and club training. The only extra costs would come from optional activites such as indoor soccer and tournaments.
  • Is there any type of financial assistance is available? -- Soccerships are available on a limited basis based on need.
  • Are play-ups allowed? -- Limited play-up positions are available with this program. Those wishing to play up need to submit a play-up form to the SpVJSA Registrar care of the SpVJSA office. Program limitations may make it impossible to place play-ups on neighborhood teams.
