History of Spokane Soccer Club

Spokane Soccer Club has a storied tradition of excellence.

Spokane Soccer Club started out as a club with a bunch of kids that did not make any team and wanted a chance to play competitive soccer (middle eighties.) The team formed and played for almost two years without scoring a goal!

Spokane Soccer Club grew from its humble beginnings and sent many player onto the college and professional ranks. The culmination of the development and teams lead to a Surf Cup Championship, numerous State Cup finalist and semifinalist, a 1998 US Youth Soccer Washington State Championship, which is still the only boy’s team from Spokane to ever win this prestigious title, and many numerous accolades. Then in 2002, Billy Sleeth, who started playing for Spokane Soccer Club when he was 10 years old, was drafted in the first round (9th overall!) by the MLS Chicago Fire!

In the summer of 2005 Spokane Soccer Club hired Abbas Faridnia to become their Director. At the time Spokane Soccer Club had 10 teams. Abbas took the storied traditions, his philosophy, the concrete of Spokane Soccer Club, and put a new re-engineering into the club. Once, again, the club began to start and have the prosperity and growth of the storied past.

After one year (2006) the club grew to 19 teams (almost doubled!) and had one premier team. Spokane Soccer Club also sent seven of their U18 Premier II players onto college soccer programs.

In 2007 the club grew again to 27 teams, five of those premier teams, and hired a girls coaching director in Jason Bellefeuille. The Club Sponsored tournament, the Northwest Cup, had over 150 teams. Making it the largest ever club sponsored soccer tournament in Spokane. Again, another year of growth and prosperity for Spokane Soccer Club.

2008 is already starting out amazing for Spokane Soccer Club. With an estimation of over 30 teams for the this year and 11 of the teams playing in the Washington State Premier League (most of any club in Eastern Washington). Five players from Spokane Soccer Club have made their respective State ODP teams (Idaho and Washington.) Spokane Soccer Club held the first annual Inland Northwest 5-A-Side and in the first year the 5-A-Side became the largest 5 a side in Spokane.

In the last three years Spokane Soccer Club has not only become the club of choice in Spokane, but the Inland Empire. Players come from as far west as Tri-Cities, as far north as Sandpoint, as far south as Pullman, and as far east as Coeur d’Alene.

The future is bright and what a time to be a member of Spokane Soccer Club!
